“Jingle Bell Rock” is Americas all-time favorite holiday song. It was first released by Bobby Helms in 1957 but composed by Joe Beal and Jim Boothe. Helms was an American country singer born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1933. His music career all started as “The Helms Brother” a country duo with his brother Freddy. This did not last so long because Helms was then asked to sing background vocals for an Ernest Tubb which allowed him to earn a recording contract of his own. Jingle Bell Rock was released just two days before Christmas in 1957 and you could only imagine how big this was. The song’s title and some of its lyrics are an extension of the old Christmas standard, “Jingle Bells”.

It has been covered by so many artists but the Helms’ version has been the best known all around. “Jingle Bell Rock” rose to number six on the pop charts and was considered a Christmas classic. He continued to make more music and go on tours but it wasn’t the same anymore, he didn’t have as much success as he did with “Jingle Bell Rock”. This version entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts on the week ending December 24, 2016, eventually reaching a peak of No. 29 two weeks later. It has received frequent airplay in the United States during every Christmas time ever since 1957. Helms’ version has been used in several TV shows, including The Wonder Years, Chuck, House M.D., It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Simpsons, and more.
